About GetMySMS
An educational resource about online privacy, temporary phone numbers, and SMS verification — with a free tool included.
Why This Site Exists
Every day, millions of people are asked to hand over their phone number to sign up for a service, verify an account, or confirm their identity. Most people comply without thinking — but your phone number is one of the most persistent pieces of personal data you have. Unlike an email address, it's hard to change, directly tied to your identity, and often used as a master key to your digital life through SMS-based two-factor authentication.
We built GetMySMS to address two needs. First, to provide clear, honest educational content about phone number privacy, SMS verification technology, and the tools available to protect yourself online. Second, to offer a free, accessible tool for receiving SMS with temporary numbers when you don't want to share your real one.
What We Offer
Educational content. Our guides cover topics like how SMS verification works technically, the difference between VoIP and SIM-based numbers, SIM swapping attacks, and how to evaluate your privacy options. We aim to explain things clearly and honestly, including the limitations and risks.
A free tool. The SMS reception tool lets you use shared, public phone numbers from over 40 countries to receive verification codes. It's useful for testing, signing up for non-sensitive services, and situations where you don't want to provide your real number.
Honest comparisons. We don't pretend our free tool is the best solution for every situation. Our comparison table clearly explains when you should use a paid virtual number, a prepaid SIM, or an authenticator app instead.
Our Values
Transparency
We tell you exactly how the service works, including that messages are public and visible to everyone. No hidden catches.
Education First
We prioritize helping you understand your options over pushing you to use our tool. Sometimes the best advice is to use something else.
Privacy Respect
We don't require registration, don't collect personal data, and don't track individual users beyond standard anonymous analytics.
Honest Limitations
We're upfront about what temporary numbers can and cannot do. We'll always tell you when a paid service or different approach is more appropriate.
What We Don't Do
We don't sell phone numbers or personal data. We don't facilitate fraud, account manipulation, or any illegal activity. We don't guarantee that our numbers will work with every service — many platforms actively block virtual numbers, and that's their right.
We also don't claim our free service replaces proper security measures. For sensitive accounts, we always recommend authenticator apps, hardware security keys, or dedicated private numbers over shared public ones.
